6-20-13 GUNS 'N' HOSES Blood Drive

Annual “Battle” Among Police & Firefighters Set to Kick Off

(Delaware County, OH)  June 20, 2013—The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to partner with other law enforcement agencies and fire departments to donate blood during the annual Guns-N-Hoses blood drive.  This is the critical summer trauma season, when the demand for blood often exceeds supply.

Guns-N-Hoses will kick off locally on Friday, June 25, with the first collection site at Sunbury United Methodist Church, 1-7 p.m. Through the end of July a total of 10 blood drives will take place in Delaware County. Those who donate during this time frame can make their donation a vote for either police officers (Guns) or firefighters (Hoses). “While this is a fun contest among law enforcement officers and firefighters, it is the recipients of these blood donations who truly win,” says Delaware County Sheriff Russ Martin.

Sponsored by ABC 6/FOX 28, WLVQ-FM 96 and Clear Channel Outdoor Digital, the Guns-N-Hoses blood drive has been a friendly competition since 1996. “We see the need almost on a daily basis,” Sheriff Martin says. “Anything we can do in the community to help increase awareness about the need for blood as well as blood donations, we’re going to do our part.” Cancer, trauma and surgical patients, burn and shock victims and those with blood disorders depend on volunteer donors to thrive.
